The Territory of Christmas Island,

is a territory of Australia in the Indian Ocean. It has a popution of 2,072 residents who live in a number of "Settlement areas" on the northern tip of the island: Flying Fish Cove (also known as Kampong), Silver City, Poon Saan, and Drumsite. The majority of the population is Chinese Australian. It is called Christmas Island because it was discovered on Christmas Day.
The island Phosphate, deposited originally as guano, has been mined on the island for many years.Christmas Island is located 2,600 kilometres (1,600 mi) northwest of Perth, Western Australia, 500 km (310 mi) south of Indonesia, 975 km (606 mi) ENE of the Cocos (Keeling) Islands, and 2,748 km (1,708 mi) west of Darwin, Northern Territory.The ethnic composition is 70% Chinese, 20% European/Australian, and 10% Malay. A 2011 report by the Australian government estimated that religions practised on Christmas Island include Buddhism 75%, Christianity 12%, Islam 10%, and other 3%.

Ilha do Natal, de nome oficial Território da Ilha do Natal

é um dos territórios externos da Austrália.A capital desta pequena ilha, de cerca de 135 km², é Flying Fish Cove, conhecida como The Settlement. Tem cerca de 1 402 habitantes (2007).
A Ilha Christmas situa-se no Oceano Índico, a 2 500 km a nordeste de Perth, Austrália e a 380 km ao sul de Java, Indonésia. Montanhosa, formada por erupções basálticas no passado, formando um planalto central que atinge o ponto mais alto com 361 m em Murray Hill; e árida em boa parte do ano com seu clima predominantemente seco, salvo pelas monções índicas.
Composição étnica: 70% de chineses, 20% de europeus e 10% de malaios.Religião: budismo 36%, islamismo 25%, cristianismo 18% e taoismo 15%.Idiomas: o inglês é a língua oficial, mas chinês e malaio também são falados.
